TRESURE
2O24

soft glass, recycled glass.
This artwork, created during a summer class led by Amber Cowan at the Corning Museum of Glass, is a unique fusion of historical reference and contemporary glass artistry. The central element — a small, intricately detailed antique piece resembling a treasure chest — serves as the conceptual anchor. Surrounding it is a meticulously arranged composition of flameworked and pressed glass components in earthy, amber, and cream tones.
The piece is a study in contrast and harmony, exploring how modern glasswork can complement and elevate a found historical object. Leaf-like shapes, flower forms, and an expressive chain create a dynamic, almost botanical scene, while maintaining a cohesive flow that unites the old and the new. The process involved thoughtful research and experimentation, seeking visual balance and emotional resonance between the reused antique and the newly crafted glass elements. The result is a whimsical, yet refined, sculptural narrative that blends past and present into a single harmonious artwork.
