soft glass, pate de vere
This intimate glass sculpture captures the tender, often chaotic experience of learning to ride a bike—both as a child and in the metaphorical sense as an adult. Crafted from pâte de verre and soft glass, the piece draws from a personal memory, revisiting a childhood moment of triumph and instability. A miniature bike, perched precariously on textured glass terrain, speaks to the adult sensation of losing control—echoing the early days of trying, falling, and trying again.
The work unfolds across three emotional phases—past, present, and future—merging them into a frozen yet dynamic landscape. The soft, almost melting edges evoke nostalgia, while the spiked grass and sudden incline hint at the unpredictability of the path ahead. It's a poetic homage to vulnerability, resilience, and the continuous act of becoming.
